Baked Apples

This recipe seems too simple to be true! There is very little preparation to do for this dessert, so it’s good for the short Fridays when there is not much time. This is a dish that I put in the oven about an hour before Shabbos comes in, then turn the oven off before candle-lighting, but leave the baked apples in the oven. When it comes to eating them they are still warm, and it doesn’t take up any room on my hot plate! My kids love this dessert. If you have a large family, use a bigger tray – and fill it up – you might be surprised that people want more than one!

8 apples, golden delicious
Mixed berries, optional
8 dates, optional
½ tsp cinnamon, optional

1. Core the apples, and place in an oven-proof glass dish. Fill the dish with as many apples as possible. Place them with the top of the apples at the top.
2. Fill each hole with mixed berries or a mixture of chopped dates and cinnamon, or leave them empty and just sprinkle some cinnamon over the top.
3. Cover with foil and bake at 170 C for an hour approximately.
